Did I forget Italian across the summer break?

Some students of mine have a summer break from the Italian classes. It’s normal, actually, everybody deserves holiday, relax, time with family and friends. I’ll tell you a secret: your Italian language teacher too sometimes loves to have a break!

When students come back, often they’re like: OMG, I can’t remember anything!

Ok, first of all, calm down.

You actually didn’t forget everything. Simply, your brain changed priority for a while because you didn’t need Italian every day. But it’s still there.

As an Italian language teacher I know that the first lesson after the break is different.

It’s like when you meet an old friend you havent’t seen for a while. You’re still friends, but you need sime time!

There’s no hurry. A professional Italian language teacher doesn’t expect perfection. They should create the most comfortable situation for you. At least, that’s what I do.

No, you didn’t forget Italian across the summer break.

The very first requirement to talk in a foreign language is to feel good with yourself and with the teacher. If your Italian language teacher makes you feel guilty because you were on holiday, well… you should consider changing them.

Generally speaking, for your comfort, try to refresh some Italian by yourself before you come back to lessons.

Do whatever: reading, listening, grammar. Just to remind your brain that you actually know Italian!

But still remember that you do it for yourself, not for the teacher. You don’t study Italian to impress a stranger person that you pay to learn!

I don’t expect my students to entertain me. I work to create a safe place for them when they can feel free to speak Italian.

That’s what is all about.

Do you want to restart to learn Italian after summer break without feeling ashamed? Send me a message, we’ll discuss the details and maybe we’ll find the best course to you!
