About me

My name is Salvatore. I’m from Sicily — though I was actually born in Bergamo, near Milan, and I now live in Livorno, in Tuscany. A bit of a geographical mix, I know.

I also lived in Pisa and Rome as a student, and I graduated in Polish language and literature — which is why I speak Polish reasonably well, or at least that’s what I like to think.

Being a native Italian speaker helps, but teaching a language is a different thing from speaking it. I know this because I’ve been, and still am, a language learner myself. I keep studying and developing as a teacher for exactly this reason: to give everyone who studies with me the best possible experience.

I taught in Warsaw for seven years before returning to Italy. Since then I’ve been working independently and online. I do sometimes miss the direct contact with people, but in return I now have students from all over the world: Canada, the United States, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil… and Poland, of course.

Outside of lessons, I love books, sports, especially football, tennis and athletics, big dogs, history, politics and podcasts. On the subject of podcasts: I have one of my own. It’s called Salvatore racconta — Italian for Salvatore tells stories — and it’s made for people who speak Italian at an intermediate or advanced level and are looking for real, engaging content beyond the usual touristy stuff about Italy. You’ll find it on all the main platforms, give an episode a listen if you’re curious. You might enjoy it!
